20% Project Post 2

This week was interesting and very helpful in doing research for my project. I was given the chance to actually speak with a sports psychologist, Ariel Treankler, this week.  During our meeting, we talked about the different routes that I could take with a sports psychology degree. I could go one of two ways, which are a masters degree or a doctors degree. If I were to get only a masters degree, I would be limited to working with athletes and helping them with their performance on the field. With the doctorate degree, I would be able to do the same as a masters degree, but I would also be able to help individuals that have mental disabilities or other disorders. The doctorate degree would make me more of a clinical psychologist.
I believe that I would like to attain a masters degree in sports psychology. I feel that helping individuals with their performance problems is my favorite aspect about becoming a sports psychologist. Helping young athletes is always something that I wanted to do, and I feel like this would be great for me. I also brought up the point about possibly becoming a coach during my meeting. Ms. Treankler told me that be a coach that also has a degree in sports psychology is a really good thing. It would make me more employable because I understand how to deal with athletes and bring the best out of them. I enjoyed my meeting this week, and I am looking forward to learning more about my future career plans.

Teaching Project (9/24)

Jordan and I finished our presi. We talked about how we want our presentation to go and how we planned to incorporate the class to be active. Our plan is to show a video about the first amendment followed by a brief explanation of what each freedom discussed in the first amendment does. After we discuss the freedoms, the class will be asked to find a past example of the first amendment and a present example. We will then briefly discuss these examples and see if anyone has used or witnessed these freedoms on UGA campus.

20% Project Post 1

I already knew a little about sports psychology because it is a career that I want to pursue after school. One thing that I learned from research is that sports psychology is a relatively new field of psychology. Dr. Carl Diem founded the first sports psychology lad in Berlin in the 1920’s. With this being a new area of study, there is not a lot of people that know what sports psychologists do or what it takes to be a sports psychologist. To be a sports psychologist, a person would actually need to have a background in psychology as well as kinesiology. The mind is only one part to being a sports psychologist, but in order to good at what you do it is useful to know how the body functions and how different things can effect the body. I also realized that being an athlete would help with understanding how to help other athletes that I would be fortunate to work with in the future because I know some of the things that they have to deal with. I would be able to understand both sides of the session with a client.  There are numerous things that could affect an athlete’s ability to perform at their highest ability. There are also a lot of athletes in the world today from high school to the professional level. All of these athletes want to perform the very best that they can and would be looking for help in improving their performance if it is available to them. I feel like sports psychology is a great field to get into because it is new and there are people that are going to need them to improve their performance in their own sport.

Project Day (9/19)

Jordan and I searched for videos that we could possibly use for our presentation and came up with the idea that we would use a song along with the video to help our concept stick in everyone's mind. The rest of our presentation is scheduled to go as we discussed in the earlier post.

Project Day (9/17)

We plan on using and I do, you do, we do format. Jordan and I are going to present the first amendment and clips that will help students to understand what it is. The you do part is where we give students an opportunity to search the web to find 1st Amendment Heroes, which are individuals that used their first amendment rights to get their point across, and an example of the first amendment in today's new. In the we do part, the class is going to share what they found in a short discussion. To make sure that the students understand the first amendment, we are going to give them an opportunity to give an example of how they have witnessed the first amendment in action in their own lives.

20% Project

I decided to use the 20% project to get more insight on being a sports psychologist. That is what I want to do when i get out of school, and I think that this project would be a great chance for me to explore the field and learn the different things that I would be able to do with a degree in sports psychology.

Teaching

Jordan and I decided to find a different way to teach the first amendment using a presi and video clips and images. Our standard is from the georgia standards website and the standard that we are using is SS4CG2, as seen below.

SS4CG2 The student will explain the importance of freedom of expression as guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U. S. Constitution.

Online Collaboration

Online tools to help people to collaborate would be good because people may not be in the same place and may need to give information to their group members. Google docs would be a great tool because an individual can choose who they want to share their document with. Once everyone in the group receives their link to the document, they can go in and view the document and they can also edit it if they see that something is wrong or they want to add something. Each person would have a different color font on the document so it would be easy to see who edited what.

Another good tool is dropbox. Dropbox is basically a way a person can store a document on one computer and open it on another. A group could benefit from dropbox because they could use it to store their documents in one place and pull them up in another. Work that is done at home can be pulled up at school or in the office to show the other members of the group, or work from the office or school can be pulled up at home to do individual work. Dropbox is helpful because it eliminates the need to carry around a device that you can save your work on because the device could potentially be lost at some point.

Story board...Tue Aug 27

Jordan and I story boarded our project idea. We came up with the different scenes that we wanted to use and what we wanted the people to be doing in each scene. We also started looking up the different scenes and pictures that we were going to use on the project.

Finishing the project

We added sound to our video and finished our stop animation film.
